A growing number of dental patients in the UK are seeking treatment abroad due to a combination of the shortage of reputable dentists in Britain and the high costs of private treatments, according to new research.
RevaHealth.com, a leading medical and dental tourism search engine, has revealed that just under 60,000 Brits searched for information online on foreign dental treatment in July - a rise of 53 per cent compared to search figures for June.
RevaHealth states that this large increase is significant proof that interest in dental tourism is rising considerably among UK citizens. People from all over the UK are being lured to countries such as Hungary, Poland and Thailand to get expert dental treatment and save thousands of pounds in the process.
The current average value of overseas treatments enquired about through RevaHealth.com (excluding travel costs) amounts to £2,200 nearly £4000 less than the average cost for the equivalent treatment in Britain (£5,945).
RevaHealths website provides people with a Dental Savings Calculator, which helps customers to calculate exactly how much they can save by travelling abroad for dental treatment .
RevaHealth has revealed that it expects 35,000 people from the UK to travel abroad for dental treatment this year, and for the UK dental tourism market to grow by 50 per cent 100 per cent during 2008 (compared to a global growth rate of 30 per cent 35 per cent).
The company currently receives more than 700 dental tourism enquiries each week, with an average of 36.9 per cent originating in the UK, while the most popular specific treatments are dental implants (31 per cent), veneers (17 per cent), teeth whitening (13 per cent), bridges (12 per cent) and crowns (11 per cent).
