Dental treatment waiting lists in Lincolnshire have been reduced due to major investment in NHS dental care, according to health managers .
New figures have revealed the waiting list to see an NHS dentist in the county has been cut by 55,000 during the past twelve months.
The countys Primary Care Trust (PCT) said over £2m had been invested in opening 10 new practices, in addition to ensuring existing practices were fully staffed.
More than 2,000 people remain on waiting lists for dental care in the area, according to managers, who added that they were working to reduce that.
Dr Martin McShane, director of strategic planning for the Lincolnshires primary care trust, said the drop was thanks to "an immense amount of hard work by the previous PCTs and the current PCT".
The new flexible dental contract has been used to bring in 10 new practices with an investment of £1.8m last year and another £1m this year," McShane added.
"We are doing some serious things about dentistry in Lincolnshire ."
