The British Dental Association (BDA) has launched a new scheme to help up and coming dentists gain improved roles following their NHS vocational training .
Completion of the one-year VT Advance scheme will result in participants receiving a minimum annual salary of £35,000 and the opportunity to be based in a dental practice with a dedicated trainer.
Participating vocational associates will also cover the key skills of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) in the programme, which include clinical record keeping, infection control, legislation and good practice guidelines, medical emergencies and radiography.
Graham Brown, Chair of the BDA's Education Committee, explained: "VT Advance offers a unique pathway to help young dentists develop their skills and experience in a supportive environment that we at the BDA hope will give participants the best possible start to their professional lives."
"Participation represents an excellent opportunity for young dentists to enhance their all-round skills and take a significant step forwards in their careers," he added.
To start with, there will be two schemes introduced - one operating in the London area and one based in the West Midlands.
The career programme will be free of charge for vocational associates, who should have already completed their vocational training year to be eligible for the scheme .
