Cadbury has launched a chewing gum in the US which it claims can rebuild tooth enamel .
The Trident Xtra Care gum has been unveiled by the Cadbury Adams, the confectionery giant's US arm.
The world renowned chocolate producer said the gum contains an ingredient called Recaldent, a form of calcium that increases tooth remineralisation' and is derived from milk .
Cadbury, which has the exclusive US rights to the Recaldent ingredient, described the product as a significant advance' for chewing gum in the US .
Dr Doris Tancredi, vice president of regulatory and emerging science at Cadbury Schweppes Americas Confectionary, explained: "Recaldent is a powerful ingredient that actually replenishes calcium and phosphate to remineralise and protect teeth by filling in the tiny crevices where cavities can form."
Trident Xtra Care is on sale in the US and comes with a choice of two flavours peppermint and cool mint.
