New guidelines for standards in leadership and management in Britains dental health sector have been set out by the General Dental Practice (GDP) faculty.
The GDP said the guidelines are "aimed at those providing leadership and management competencies in the delivery of high quality dental care," adding that the dental care sector is in great need of such individuals due to changes made within the dental care delivery system .
But the guidelines are also of particular use to Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) as many of the competencies identified are relevant to other healthcare disciplines.
Corporate organisations and dental practices, along with dental professionals who wish to develop their leadership and management roles, will also benefit .
The Guidelines for standards in the development of leadership and management in the dental health sector publication expands on the FGDP and the Department of Healths development of national guidelines for the appointment of Dentists with Special Interests (DwSIs), and the FGDP's guidelines for standards in research.
The new guidelines were developed by a working group with various expertise in leadership and management from across the dental and wider healthcare sectors.
