Mon, 20 Apr 2009

Dental patients in Newbury, Berkshire have been boosted by the news that a new NHS dental practice is set to open at the start of next month.

The much-needed dental centre will boost access to dental care in the town following the decision by two other dentists to stop taking on NHS patients .

Set to open on May 1, the London Road practice will cater to 6,000 new patients and is one of three new dental centres across the county that have been built at a combined cost of £1 million.

Hugh O'Keeffe of the NHS Berkshire West Primary Care Trust confirmed that two Newbury dental practices that had been offering NHS treatment had temporarily closed their books to NHS patients.

Mr O'Keeffe said Baldev's Dental Care surgery will not be taking on any new NHS patients until the end of the month, but was unable to confirm when the Halford House practice in West Street is to re-open its doors to new patients on the NHS .

Newbury residents can apply for a place at the new dental centre by visiting their website - Newburydental.co.uk - or by calling 01635 31624.
