Britons Understand Value Of Dental Care

Thu, 16 Apr 2009

Almost 90 per cent of the British public understand the importance of routine dental care, new research has revealed.

A survey commissioned by the dental payment plan specialist Denplan found that 89 per cent of the public understand the effect poor dental health can have on general health .

Eighty seven per cent of Brits are happy with the dental care they receive from their dentist, with 84 per cent revealing their dentist took time to discuss preventive dental care measures with them, as well as making necessary recommendations.

The survey also revealed 72 per cent of dental patients would not consider delaying an appointment with their dentist .

However, the 13 per cent who worryingly admitted to delaying or even cancelling a routine check-up because of pressure on finances suggests that 6 million adults are being forced to risk their oral health amid the recession.

Commenting on the findings, Denplan managing director Steve Gates said: "With all that's going on at the moment regarding the economy, notwithstanding the current changes to NHS dentistry, it is extremely encouraging that as a nation we recognise that regular dental visits, checkups and good dental hygiene habits not only help maintain good oral health but good general health as well."

"We also know from other research that patients on payment plans are least likely to cancel or delay, suggesting that budgeting for our dental treatment is favoured over pay-as-you-go when prioritising household expenditure during the credit crunch."
