Dental patients in North East Scotland could receive treatment from post-graduate dental students at Aberdeen's new dental school as early as June.
The school is set to start screening patients to see which ones could be treated by newly qualified students at the school at Foresterhill.
It comes as new figures show the North-east region of Scotland has the lowest percentage of NHS dental patients in the country.
According to the Government figures, just 39.2 per cent of people in Grampian are registered with NHS dentists, compared to Greater Glasgow where 73.3 per cent of the populations have an NHS dentist .
Prof James Newton, head of the dental school, said he expects the centre to have an impact on the waiting list once more students graduate. The school will eventually train 20 graduates each year.
The Scottish Government recently announced a £82m package for health boards for projects aimed at improving oral health care across the nation.
