Calls to an NHS helpline by Lincolnshire residents continue to be dominated by emergency dental problems .
More than 7,000 patients in the county called NHS Direct complaining of dental-related issues in 2008, more than any other medical problem.
Dental-related issues have accounted for the majority of the hundreds of thousands of calls received by the free advice and information service for the second year running.
Julie Knott, regional director of nursing for NHS Direct East Midlands, said one reason why dental queries feature quite high is because the service takes out-of-hours calls from NHS dental patients trying to get in contact with their regular practices.
She added: "We do get a lot of dental calls across the whole of the organisation and we employ dental nurses who can give people a really thorough assessment to decide if they need treatment immediately."
Over 55,000 calls to NHS Direct were made from people in Lincolnshire over the last two yeas, with 15,453 residents calling regarding dental advice .
