A Berkshire dental practice is being investigated for allegedly advising patients to pay private fees for treatment which would be available cheaper on the NHS .
NHS Berkshire West is investigating the claim into the unnamed surgery in Reading following talks between the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) and Dental Commissioning Quality Group at NHS Berkshire West.
Joe Devanny, Reading area director for NHS Berkshire West, explained: "A dental practice in Reading town centre appeared to be advising some patients that some treatments would be private which are within the NHS ."
"Since that has happened we have spoken to them and informed them of the expectations we have in terms of making clear what is and isnt available on the NHS ."
"We have put it out in writing and will be monitoring the practice over the coming year and meeting the contract holders of the dentist in question later this month to see where they have got to."
NHS Berkshire West confirmed it was working with the accused practice to reduce the "degree of confusion" patients in Reading are experiencing about eligibility for NHS treatment and prices being charge.
