Scotlands dental school graduates are finding it hard to secure work placements, despite the government claiming that there are more than enough training places available.
According to reports, over 10 per cent of final year students at Dundee Dental School have been unable to find work placements required for them to complete their dental training.
Experts say a shortage of places could hamper efforts to boost the number of NHS dentists in the country.
The government confirmed there are 151 vocational training places available to the 147 dental students who are expected to graduate in the next month.
135 are available in general practice and eight each in the hospital dental service and the longitudinal service' - a combination of hospital and general practice.
However, reports show that seven dental graduates, one from Glasgow and six from Dundee, are yet to secure a training place.
A spokeswoman NHS Education for Scotland (NES) said individual practices were responsible for appointments and added that it expects to make more training places available in the near future.
