Dental patients in and around Chelmsford, Essex, are being offered free treatment as part of plans by the local Health Trust to improve dental services in the area.
Under the new scheme, ten dental practices in Chelmsford, four in Maldon and six in Braintree, Witham and Halstead are giving residents who have not seen a dentist for the past two years the chance to have NHS dental treatment carried out free of charge.
Dehlia McNair, assistant commissioning manager for primary care for NHS Mid Essex, added: "I hope people make use of the scheme. We have set a priority to improve NHS dental care as part of our commitment to improving access to NHS services ."
"It is important to encourage people to see a dentist in order to avoid health problems ."
Dental practice adviser Adam Copsey, from Chelmsford, added: "We are really excited about this scheme."
"Its now recognised poor oral health could lead to heart diseases and strokes. Therefore, it has become increasingly important to keep our teeth and gums healthy."
Those eligible for the free treatment can claim a dental voucher by calling 01245 459358, or by visiting Midessex.nhs.uk/freedental.
Vouchers will be sent out in the post and must be taken to one of the participating dental surgeries along with proof of residence.
