Dentists in the Braintree district of Essex are offering free NHS dental treatment to people who have gone two years without having their teeth checked.
As part of plans to improve access to NHS dentistry, health trust NHS Mid Essex has launched a scheme to provide free treatment to residents of Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon, Witham, Halstead and surrounding areas, who have not seen a dentist in two years.
From February 1 to March 31, twenty dental practices across the area will offer dental check-ups and carry out root canal work, fillings, extractions, and cosmetic dentistry work free of charge to those eligible.
Dehlia McNair, assistant commissioning manager for primary care at NHS Mid Essex, said: "We have set a priority to improve NHS dental care as part of our commitment to improving access to NHS services .
"As well as making sure that services are available locally, it is important to encourage people to see a dentist in order to avoid health problems ."
To access the free treatment, eligible patients must take a dental voucher and proof of residence to a participating surgery .
The voucher can ordered online at Midessex.nhs.uk/freedental or by calling 01245 459 358 (during office hours).
