Dentists in East Kent are giving away bags full of free dental products to patients who quit smoking .
Ten dental practices in the region have teamed up with NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent's Stop Smoking Service to encourage patients to give up smoking, which significantly increases the risk of developing oral cancer .
The service consists of a seven-week stop smoking course with up to 12 weeks of pharmacological support.
Patients who complete the NHS programme will receive a free dental bag containing a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash and lip balm, all of which highlight the cosmetic impact of giving up smoking .
All staff in the dental practices have been trained by James Buckland and Ros Backham of the Stop Smoking Service to help them inform patients about the effects of smoking on oral health .
Ros Backham said dental staff in the UK play "a major role" in pointing those who want to give up smoking in the right direction for support and advice.
