Dental patients in Winchester, Hampshire, have welcomed the opening of a new NHS dental practice .
The Iosis Clinic in Southgate Street opened its doors on Monday and will soon be joined by a new mobile dental surgery that will provide services to patients in the Meon Valley and Stockbridge areas.
The new surgery has already registered 1,400 patients, and combined with the mobile unit, could provide access to NHS dental services to 9,500 people in the area, easing the waiting list crisis.
Business manager Dr Shapour Hariri said: "Weve had so many comments from patients saying they wanted to see a dentist but couldnt afford it."
"Were very excited to be able to offer this new service in Winchester, and it will be open longer than most surgeries."
Iosis employs three full-time and three part-time dentists . The practice specialises in NHS dentistry but can also treat private patients.
Natalie Jones, lead commissioning manager for primary care dental services, NHS Hampshire, commented: "We are committed to increasing the number of NHS dental places for Hampshire residents and are really pleased that this practice is open in Winchester."
"This practice will also provide a mobile service in Bishops Waltham, Wickham and East Meon, with services to be provided in the Stockbridge area later."
