Good Oral Hygiene Vital For Cosmetic Dentistry

Mon, 04 Apr 2011

The effects of cosmetic dentistry can be improved by good oral hygiene, a leading dental health expert has claimed.

Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, explained that cosmetic dentistry can be performed on anyone, but it is "not a sensible investment if your oral hygiene on a daily basis is not up to scratch".

"If you are not cleaning your teeth properly you will be more likely to suffer from gum disease which in time can cause the teeth to become loose and eventually be lost," the dentist said.

"The appearance of any crowns and veneers which are provided will also be improved if your gums are in good condition."

Dr Carter also gave tips on how parents can improve the oral health of their kids.

He said parents should ensure their children brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day; keep an eye on their child’s diet – limit their intake of sugary food and drinks; and take them for regular dental check-ups.
