CAB Reveals Better Access To NHS Dentist In Eastbourne

Thu, 03 Feb 2011

Dental services in the town of Eastbourne, East Sussex, have improved considerably over the past few years, according to a review by the town’s Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

A survey of the town’s residents showed a considerable improvement in access to NHS dental care, compared to the situation in 2007 when many people struggled to find an NHS dentist .

The CAB found that since 2007, the number of dental practices accepting NHS patients has doubled and many more patients have been able to register with a dentist closer to home.

Some 94 per cent of patients are now visiting a dentist within 5 miles of their home, compared to 81 per cent up in 2007.

The study also showed that waiting times for NHS appointments have been significantly reduced, with the percentage of people waiting less than two weeks for a dental appointment rising from 34 per cent to 59 per cent.

Representatives from the local NHS trust said that the latest review underlined an improvement in the provision of NHS dentistry in Eastbourne, "especially in terms of the number of dentists accepting NHS patients".
